This month was my first time traveling…

This month was my first time traveling outside of the country for longer than a weekend on a resort, and I was so greatful for the gentle guidance that was provided not just by Amanda and JD, but by the community of support that Amanda has worked to build into Moksha. I always felt like I had a place to go for questions, and a safety net of savy individuals to back me up when I didn't think to ask questions. I came in for one month to a group of people where many were on their 11th, and was welcomed in even though circles where already ready tight knit. JD provided a genuine enthusiasm that helped me fall in love with Peru, and recommendations for restaurants that never disappointed! My experience with remote year, even though brief by most comparisons, has been an unforgettable and transformitive experience!

One of the best months of our lives…

Our month in Lima with Remote Year was one of the best months of our lives. We’ll never forget the incredible, diverse landscapes we experienced on our awesome weekend adventures, nor all the people we met along the way. Highly highly highly recommend!

Our guide Marina was AMAZING, and the overall trip was amazing. It was my first time in Spain (and in Europe!), and this was an amazing way to do it.

Thiago the BEST!

Oh what can I say about my samba 4 month journey led by our community leader Thiago.
I did july-oct Latin America program (CDMX, Colombia, Peru and Brazil). The highlight of the program was Thiago who was the best person to lead the program. He was genuine and took utmost care of us. The program would not have been same without him and we ended up as a life long friend (I hope he feels same😅).
I would definitely join another program in a heartbeat led by Thiago.

My Remote Year experience in Cape Town

My remote experience in Cape Town was incredible! There were so many things to do, and I met so many amazing people along the way. I stayed in a fantastic location that truly made me feel like I was living the Cape Town life. From connecting with local vendors at the markets to enjoying neighborhood eateries, I felt like a part of the community. Natalie made the transition so easy and was incredibly supportive throughout my stay, which made a world of difference. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for an authentic and immersive time in Cape Town!

Great First RY Experience

Lisbon is an amazing country! It’s absolutely beautiful and there is no shortage of things to do. I found it easy to find my way around; the people are friendly and kind. RY group activities were fun; I especially loved cultural experiences. Viviana is unbelievable! She has such a kind, accepting, and welcoming personality that puts one at ease.

I fell in love with Lisbon

I fell in love with Lisbon! Great mix of old and modern! Great city to wander around by yourself or in a group. Lisbon is hands down one of my favorite RY locations ! I enjoyed the central location of our apartment, and it was very ascetically pleasing and modern. Best RY accommodation so far!!! Viviana was great! Always quick to respond and eager with suggestions!

Pack your bags for Lisbon ;)

One month in Lisbon was so transformative! Viviana was the best host and set us up for such a great month full of curated experiences. I absolutely loved everything the city had to offer and the community that I got to spend it with :) Highly recommend this city and the 1 month program here!

Unforgettable Osaka Journey - September 2024

My trip to Osaka in September 2024 was a truly enriching experience and one of the highlights of my remote year journey. Ken is, by far, the best city manager I’ve encountered. His professionalism, extensive knowledge, fantastic personality, and thoughtful recommendations made my time in Osaka exceptional. The city itself is peaceful, safe, fun, and culturally vibrant, with amazing food and friendly people. I’m so glad I decided to visit! Ken, keep up the excellent work—I truly appreciate all your help, guidance, and incredible patience!

Is work & travel for me?

My first trip with RY was a test to see if I could travel and work at the same time. I was able to juggle my work commitments and social activities. Although I had to learn how to be okay with saying no to somethings. It was a very successful experiment and now I know the world is a big open space waiting for me to discover it, one month at a time.

Valencia is a fave

I have done many 1-month RY programs and I would rate my experience in Valencia among the best. Marina goes above and beyond to organize, plan, communicate, and make sure all visitors have a fantastic time. She is incredibly kind. The trip vendors RY works with were also all fantastic. They were so nice and hospitable and wanted to make sure you had a great time on the trip. And the experiences/add-ons that can be booked were also very unique and among my favorites. The city is also very beautiful and manageable!

10/10 Would Recommend 👍

Remote Year played a pivotal role in my personal growth, thanks to the friendships I made and the self-discoveries I experienced. Josh and Marina were fantastic hosts, whose positive energy and well-organized events made the trip really special. I highly recommend this program to anyone new to solo travel or looking to connect with like-minded professionals:)

Lisbon and City Manager Viv 10/10 Experience!

Lisbon and having Viv as my city manager was incredible. She truly gave me the 5 star concierge experience. She was extremely responsive and was always happy to provide A+ recommendations. For example, she gave me three different beach hopping itineraries. The welcome and farewell events she organized were lovely. Having a professional vintage car tour and a sunset boat cruise was wonderful. She got us reservations at some of the best restaurants as well (e.g., Ponto Final). She truly went above and beyond. The city of Lisbon itself is amazing and I would recommend everyone do the RY Lisbon trip. I didn't stay in the RY apartments but I wish I did because they were beautiful and centrally located. The coworking space was also incredibly gorgeous and centrally located. Overall Viv and Lisbon are a 10/10!

Highly recommend Remote Year and Valencia

I've done Multiple Remote Year trip, and the most recent one to Valencia Spain was one of the best. The group was great, and the city manager Marina is so warm and welcoming. I haven't been to Barcelona or Madrid, but many people from the group took side trip and came back saying that they preferred the chiller vibe of Valencia.

All thanks to Omar Hernandez our Mexico City guide

Thrilled I visited Mexico City for the first time with Remote Year. Omar the city guide held high energy and brought in key friends to make sure we were all having the experience we came here for. I chose Remote Year because I wanted to experience a new city abroad with people who were “up to good things” and I got what I was asking for. I also chose to use their housing, which was perfect.

1 month: Mexico City

Remote Year provided me with the reassurance, clarity and headspace to launch my own consultancy / freelance to make my dream digital nomad lifestyle sustainable for the long-term. While I don't think I gained the lifelong connections I was hoping for, I met a few incredible people from all over the world and the experiences changed my life perspective. Also Omar was D' best city manager and guide could have asked for based on my experiences with other groups. He's such a joy to have as a leader!

4-month Journey: Africa & Europe

The 4-month journey across South Africa and Europe was truly such a magical experience. While the places themselves were stunning, our community leader, Florencia, went above and beyond to cultivate a healthy and loving community. I couldn't have imagined this journey without her leadership, as the group we were with made such an impact on everything from day-to-day life to weekend trips. Being able to visit such remarkable places with insights from locals paired with such an incredible group of people was such a privilege and an experience I'll never forget.

4 month Europe and Africa Journey with lifetime friends and memories

A 4 month Remote Year Journey through Europe and Africa is the best way to experience 4 months in 4 different countries over 2 continents with Remote Year. During these 4 months we had a chance to visit Cape Town, Split, Valencia and Tirana. This was a perfect mix of experiencing Africa and Europe a great combination of countries and experiencing different cultures. Each of these cities offer something unique from the mountains to the beaches.
The on the ground city team in each of these cities were knowledgable, helpful and very friendly. They made you feel at home in their country always offering helpful suggestions and different ways to experience the country. Each of the experiences were well curated in each of the destinations. The accommodations in the apartments were all really nice, comfortable and had everything needed for a stay for the month. The coworking locations were all centrally located and made it easy to be productive for work.
Having done a 4 month journey through LatAm previously as well a several one month programs through LatAm, Europe and Africa this was such an enjoyable experience as a 4 month program. Mula was a amazing 4 month Remote Year Journey. Our traveling Community Leader, Florencia created a family oriented, friendly, inclusive, caring community within Mula. She constantly cared about the community creating events to build the community so others could get to know each other. Was always there for everyone and just created such an experience on this journey that I will never forget. This Mula journey may have been a lot different had she not been the Community Leader for it. She really made the Mula journey and community what it was and it's something that I will never forget. This was such an amazing journey that I will always keep in my heart. With memories that will last forever and creating life long friendships. Thank you Florencia, all of the city teams and Remote Year for this once in a life time experience.

DO.IT.NOW!

Anyone wants to stay 1 month+ for anywhere in the world, you have to choose remote year. I was in Valencia for a month in June and had an amazing time of my life there. Company is professional yet make sure that you are well prepared for the trip with all documentation, you meet the people you will spend time there before even the journey starts, receive so many tips and if you choose your accommodation with Remote Year, they really make sure it suits your needs.
We had an amazing, loveliest and sweetest city manager Marina. Her professionalism towards to the group was impeccable and she always tailored & curated personalized trips for our people. We did explore the city with so many events and always ready to answer our questions.
Im so grateful to meet her and our friends in the group. If you have any hesitations to book, just DO.IT.NOW! there is no other better company to do with it.

Amazing experience away from home

I was in Valencia for the month of June and it was my first RY trip. Despite being super introverted, I had so much fun on this trip! Marine was amazing and helped me out so much with everything! The weekend activities were really fun as well. The best part of this was the people that I met. Everybody was super friendly and nice and I would 100% recommend RY Valencia to all my remote working friends. I had cut the trip short because of an extenuating circumstance and RY was really kind to give me some credit as well. I’ve already booked my next trip and I can’t wait!

Just Book The Trip

Remote Year in Lisbon was amazing, and made me fall in love with Portugal. I was very impressed with the level of excellence, including the great accommodations, which exceeded my expectation for such an aged city. We were right in city center, lived in the same building as all others in the program (which isn't always the case), and the workspace met my needs and was a 10-min walk. Our city manager Viv exceeded my expectations for friendliness, true care for well being, and led us through many fun local events and was very engaging with the group. The experiences offered were great as well (noting that there is a different flow in Portugal vs the descriptions, but I still enjoyed), most led by locals. Sintra day trip and Azores 4-day trip were amazing. I loved every moment of each. Highly recommend RY and look forward to booking my next trip.

Yum & Fun in Lisbon!!

Lisbon is the most beautiful city! Vibrant, charming, and a flavor for every interest. Our City Guide, Viv, was awesome! It was like having a friend in a city you just moved to. She had great food recommendations (which can be an overwhelming task in a city as DELICIOUS as Lisbon). She was prompt and always up to something fun - whether thats a DJ set on the beach or a stroll in the woods during firefly season. Viv has an open heart and spirit, and my stay in Lisbon would have been very different without her.
Remote Year is a great option for people who want longterm arrangements without having to handle the logistics.

An Incredible Experience

I have absolutely no regrets about using Remote Year. Valencia was a beautiful and welcoming city. Our city leader was the friendliest, most wonderful person who genuinely cared about making everyone’s experience fantastic. The people on the trip with me were one-of-a-kind and so outgoing and adventurous. On this trip I experienced so much of the culture, enjoyed such amazing and delicious food, made such incredible friends, and am taking home treasured and lasting memories. I highly recommend Remote Year and the city of Valencia!

Great experience and great city guide

So i was referred to join RY by a friend. Never heard of them before.
But after having spent this experience, i would say wow!
Is it Valencia, is it the city guide (Marina), is it the group? Hehe in over all it has been amazing.

Valencia is a great city to spend this experience, the culture, the vibe, the food, the friendliness of the people.

Our group was very homogeneous, so we really got along.

Our city guide Marina, she was super !! She’s an amazing person, very welcoming, very knowledgeable about the city and always there to support.
Can’t thank her enough.

Overall we went there with zero expectations, we left with a lifetime memory and friends.

Didn’t match what I expected

I have traveled a lot and had heard good things about Remote Year. I decided during a year of travel while working remote on my own I would sign up for a month of RY. I’m going to be honest about my experience because I don’t really feel like most of these reviews are reflective of the true experience (RY encourages city and trip leaders to have people fill out reviews and most people end up reviewing the leaders rather than the company and experience itself)

I had high expectations - usually when I’m traveling I meet people with similar values of learning different cultures. I’ve always made lasting friendships through experiences like studying abroad or solo travel. However, the vibes on this trip were off. Sadly I haven’t really kept in touch with anyone I met through RY.

For context, RY offers both year-long trips and month-long trips. On my month-long trip, they had us combined with a year-long group in the same city at the same time. I would have thought this would be a good thing because there wouldn’t have been many participants without both groups. However, I learned quickly that this makes for an awkward dynamic. The year-long group had already been traveling and meeting new people from the month-long trips for about 9 months. Some of them admitted that they really didn’t want to meet new people or put in any effort at that point. This led to the year-long participants creating an “inner crew” because they had already gotten to know each other and solidified friendships. I understand that perspective but honestly the value as a month-long participant drops significantly if they don’t feel others are truly open to making friendships.

Other people I met on the trip were there more to party than to learn about a new culture. There wasn’t really much that the leaders did to teach us about the new culture other than a short culture intro (30 min) at the beginning of the month. I had talked to some of the year-long participants about past trips they had taken, like in Cape Town, and was shocked to learn they hadn’t really learned anything about apartheid or visited the ample history museums in the city. I learned that the RY culture skews more towards partying than it does soaking up and learning a new culture. I’m sure some people are looking for that in their experience but I was not.

Lastly, I agree with the reviews that talk about all the add-on pricing. Although I do think the base price is fair and I like the new flexible options, the add-on experience pricing was a bit ridiculous (ie $50 for a hike with the RY group that you could do on your own for free). However if you don’t pay up for the add-on activities, there won’t be many opportunities to get to know everyone in the RY group.

In conclusion, there are a lot of cities (like Mexico City), I would encourage people to travel on their own and meet other travelers through coliving rather than the RY program.

Reply from Remote Year

Thank you for sharing your experience of your time in Florianopolis in July 2023. This is in addition and disappointingly contrary to the feedback we received at the time, which stated the group ‘meshed well’, and feedback was given as full marks across the board, including the experiences available and heralded the team’s approach to delivering a solid cultural understanding.

Often people traveling for a 1 month period intersect with groups who have been traveling for a longer period of time. Every effort is made to make sure groups are fully integrated and welcomed. This dynamic is the same as traveling remote workers who choose to travel outside of RY, but without the added advantage of dedicated Community Leaders whose role is to facilitate connection.

Part of efforts to build community, every month, are 7 official included experiences, which act as a bare minimum. This includes a City Introduction, a Language & Culture Class (av. 2hrs), walking tour, a welcome event and a farewell event, in addition to get togethers organised by the Community Leader. All of these provide great opportunities to meet other remote workers, without additional cost.

To note: In Cape Town, our City Welcome and separate Culture Class are some of the most extensive in all our destinations, and do in fact include a huge history of South Africa. No topic is shied away from, with the option of additional experiences to further learn more about South Africa’s past and present. Every destination we provide a huge resource list for members to also do their own learning, and suggest places to visit in the city to further develop various cultural understanding.

In terms of the hike in question in Florianopolis, for those who went on the experience, they would know that this day took in two locations and the costs for the experience included round trip private transport, a private yoga lesson with instructor and a separate guide from start to finish. We think this is clear from the RY Marketplace description, but we will make sure the City Team also makes sure to emphasise the full itinerary.

Feedback really is welcome, and we definitely take it all on board to see what we can address and improve upon. This is why we encourage honest feedback at the time of the experience.

When they say jump, just travel!

Just finished a trip with some of the best memories on record. I feel very accomplished for completing four months travel in Asia under the group name Pei. Not only did I see many counties, peoples, experience a variety of cultures and food, I found a family. All my fellow members are amazing, beautiful people who will be my family for life. Thanks to and with so much love to our community leader brought the house down with her various attributes. Vita Anggraeni truly held together the group with spirit, humor, and support over the entire trip. Our travel success are a direct reflection of her.

Remote Year and the people I met there changed my life for the better

I've done one 4-month trip through LatAm and two 1-month programs (Cape Town, Valencia).

RY does their very best to make the experiences fun, inclusive, and exciting. I was going through a hard time personally at the start of my 4-month trip. I initially planned to only participate in 1-month but I stayed on for 4. Some of the friends that I made along the way are now very close friends of mine. If you're thinking of doing it, DO IT

Vamos a Valencia!

I truly enjoyed my first (of many) trips with Remote Year in Valencia! I enjoyed discovering the history of the city, practicing my Spanish, wandering around the beautiful architecture & museums, as well as discovering multiple avenues to nurture my creativity. Valencia is a beautiful, magical place and I'm happy I had such a wonderful team to support & help me navigate my month there.

RY could be better but Vita and team are absolutely worth it!

There are some things that RY as a company could improve on and the pricing of activities and services is not always justified compared to what you get for it. That being said, all of that goes out the window because we had an amazing community leader for our 4 month Pei journey through Asia. Vita made all of those issues irrelevant and deserves every of the 5 stars. Not only did she make Bali feel like home but she also listened to our feedback and actually actioned it to make sure we had a great time. If you see a Remote Year experience that has Vita involved, just do it! Kudos also go to the city leads Ken, Trang and Miao for helping navigate the different cities we stayed in ❤️

Don’t hesitate…just do it!

I joined Pei in Bali in February 2024 as a one month-er as I was not sure what the group will be like. It was the start of a beautiful journey.
The group was amazing and they made me feel so welcome and made a concerted effort to make me love them and difficult for me to leave. So I made the decision to stay the full 4month program without hesitation. I am so glad I did.

Vita is sooo amazing and I love her to bits - I am so glad she was our Community Leader and I couldn’t have asked for a better one. When I was unwell, she accompanied me (which I think contributed to me feeling better instantly!)

Working odd hours and all the awesome adventures we experienced has been an enriching life experience that I will treasure forever.

Now I’m travelling further with the other half of the group and having so much fun together…it is better than I have expected.
This may have been the best impulsive decision I have ever made in my life so far ^_^

I never write reviews

I never write reviews, but this time I had to. I did the 1 month Chiang Mai program. I was nervous at first to join this program because it costed money and I didn't know what kind of group I'd end up with.

The group was beyond expectations - I could not have asked for a better group. The month went by so fast. Although you never know what to expect, I believe it takes a certain kind of personality to join Remote Year. Everyone in the group was incredibly fun and welcoming. A special shoutout to Miao our city leader who proactively volunteered to help us address our questions and concerns and Vita who worked around-the-clock to organize events outside of the marketplace and making the experience especially memorable!

I highly recommend Chiang Mai :)

BsAs with Remote Year, only delights.

Buenos Aires was my first experience with Remote Year, although I’ve long had my eye on the organization, and I can confidently say it won’t be my last. BsAs is a special place, and returning there with RY, and learning more about the nuances of the city through the beautifully guided experiences of the City Manager (Nacho), had me falling in love with the city all over again. Recommend traveling with Florencia as your Community Leader!

This was my first RY 1-month experience and I had the pleasure of having Florencia (Flo) as my Community Leader. She is extremely knowledgeable, caring, friendly, and overall amazing at what she does! Our trip was well organized before we even traveled to Croatia - with plenty of onboarding webinars and opportunities to connect with her and become familiar with RY. From my very first interaction to my last 1:1 with Flo, she showed me why she makes a great leader. Her kindness, openness, compassion, empathy, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life is the reason why our community vibed so well. I am impressed by how much work she did behind the scenes to organize community events, ensure that our local experiences run smoothly, incorporate our feedback during the trip, and overcommunicate details and logistics. She truly creates memorable experiences for the RY community and I'm so happy I get to know her!

Remote Year Offers Independent Travel with a Community

I absolutely loved this program. Maria and Marina were so kind and helpful. Right from the start Molly and the whole team really made sure I felt comfortable traveling as a woman alone to live in a country I had never been to. The activities they planned were fun and inclusive. The office space and apartment they provided were more than adequate and everything was thought of. All of the people I met on the trip had the same goal - Discovery!!! So many individuals with their own stories and cultures to share. This was very special and I know I made some friends for life. I recommend this program to anyone wanting to get out there and explore but may want a community to do so with.

I loved remote year! I had already traveled with "ef ultimate break" and wanted a similar experience for a longer period of time. This is exactly what I got! I was happy to have my own time with also being able to have a community and fun activities with other remote workers. Highly recommend to try!

My month in Floripa, Brazil absolutely exceeded my expectations! The accommodations and workspace were modern and well-maintained. And everyone - from the City Manager, to the vendors, to the coworking members - was so welcoming and ensured you were having a positive experience.

Enjoying the city of Medellin

I have truly had a wonderful experience here in Medellin, Santa Marta and the countryside. Before coming to visit this country, friends and family expressed fear in my coming because of their unfounded thoughts of danger. My experiences have truly dispelled those misconceptions. The people I have encountered throughout my stay have truly been very heartfelt, open and welcoming. By becoming friends with individuals, I have come to appreciate how one's culture has truly been trying to overcome aversity and social struggles by expressing their openness to accepting and welcoming others from around the world. I would truly recommend others to experience the richness and openess of such a beautiful spot in this portion of the world.

I encourage perspective travelers to resist preconceived notions and stereotypes regarding Medellin and visit it with the same common sense and travelers' mentality as any other new city.

Medellin fun city, don't be too worried about security

My month in Medellin was awesome. The city has so much to offer, Dancing (Salsa, Bachata), Bars, Museums, very goo restaurants and a lot of nature.
I was also a person who heard a lot of bad news about safeness in Medellin, but it is not as bad as the news say. The city managerin Cata gives you all the informations where you can go and when you have to be a bit more careful. She is always there for you and will help you. In the area where Remote year stays you can easily walk around on your own during the day. I will definitly come back to Medellin. It was a beautiful month. And it is a vibe to live between mountains in a tropical area.

Thanks for this month to the whole team in Medellin, especially Cata (City Managerin) and Omar (Community Leader), to made this an unforgettable month.

Community is top notch, the safety is the worst

The organization of events is well done, I got good experiences at the cities visited. The community is amazing, and the most valuable out of these programs; one gets to meet truly exceptional people.
The security the program provides is very poor. I got a large amount of money stolen from what was supposed to be a safe and secure accommodation, chosen and booked by Remote Year. RY did not provide clear solutions, stating that "this isn’t something that Remote Year can just repay (in cash or credit) since they do not know exactly what happened". RY did not try to investigate my case any further, I'm still at loss of money that directly impacts my ability to keep traveling.

Best thing I've done!

I had such an incredible experience with my first Remote Year program in Floripa! It was perfect for me as someone who wanted to travel and work remotely, without the pressure of finding my own community abroad. There are so many opportunities for fun activities to explore the area and immerse in the culture, all planned by the amazing city manager, Thiago.

Remote Year is a wonderful opportunity to embrace new adventures

1st week’s introductory activities were great. It really helped me to orient/ generalize the city scape before really trying to explore and to maximize getting to know others. Pecha Kucha & Unconference helped me identify the individuals that I thought could help me on my career pivot journey; I was able to introduce myself and get the advice and help that I was seeking.

Our city guide and city manager Flo & Nat worked really hard to ensure that we were treating our month or 4 month stay with integrity (I.e you dont have to engage in every event but do participate and learn along the way).

I do appreciate the important time spent meeting real local people when we can and supporting their work.

My 2nd trip with RY and another amazing experience!

The combo of Fallas, Valencia and our leader Marina was unbeatable!!

I highly recommend visiting Valencia, Fallas if you love to party and enjoy the festivies and Marina was the icing on the cake with her warm personality and always there to help!

Can't wait to book another RY trip soon!

Would highly recommend!

Would highly recommend! A beautiful city coupled with the incredible experience of Las Fallas all brought together perfectly by the most amazing host made for an experience I would urge you to take up!

The accommodation and co-working exceeded expectations and with plenty of sights and excursions on offer, there's no shortage of things to do.

Marina, the Valencian RY Leader, really did take the trip to the next level though. Her hospitality and patience coupled with her local knowledge meant any advice or guidance you could possibly want was never more than a friendly text away, a real pleasure to spend time with!

If you do opt for the March trip make sure you'll be comfortable with all the festivities, there's lots happening all day and night which is incredible to experience but can be overwhelming if that's not what you're looking for, however you can dip in and out as much as you want. Also, if you're on a European work timezone make sure you plan your week in advance as many of the activities will be during the day, so you may need to schedule meetings etc accordingly.

If you've never been to Valencia, or even if you have, definitely put this trip on the to-do list!

Best way to solo travel

Absolutely the best way to travel as a solo traveller/digital nomad. Remote Year optimizes your time somewhere by planning the best experiences, finding you very safe and high quality accommodations, and guiding you through the culture and community. I felt safe and cared for the entire time, and was still able to focus on work while having lots of fun. I have no negative things to say about the experience or organization. Highly recommend!

Everyone Needs to Visit Cape Town!

Cape Town is one of those places that’s magical for so many reasons. The city is so vibrant and alive, plus it has all of the best parts of nature to offer as well. RY created a fantastic experience for us and offered some great additional experiences. Flo and Nat were also the perfect city and community guides…I can’t wait to come back!

I will most definitely be back and have already been researching flights back to Cape Town.

Valencia

Valencia, Spain in March (during Fallas) —an exhilarating time of year. Rich in Valencia’s history and culture. The accommodations were extraordinary: modern, well-furnished (coffee maker, washer, comfortable seating and beds, etc.) The local experiences were wonderful. Marina (community leader) connected us with some amazing professionals for everything from cooking lessons to the history and politics of Fallas.
This was my first Remote Year trip. The others in my group were diverse in age, backgrounds, and careers. Most people prioritized their work/work hours, so you are able to be quite productive without having to swim upstream. And there were plenty of opportunities to socialize and thoroughly enjoy the city throughout the month. I’m actually writing this review on the last day of my trip. If April had any availability at all, I would just stay here one more month!

No separation of work & play

Hanoi is a lovely bustling city. Trang is highly professional, quick to respond and incredible efficient in all of her efforts; She alone is the reason I am not giving this month a one star. Unfortunately, The co-working space did not lend itself to a positive or productive working environment. This space was used for social events and blurred the boundaries for those who needed a quiet and focused workspace. This space was also poorly maintained and serviced resulting in overflowing trash and molded dishes on several occasions.

I would not recommend this place as a productive or enjoyable month as I was stuck in my room a lot due to lack of quiet or clean working space.

My first RY experience, thumbs up

My first RY proper experience. Loved 99% of it. My apartment in Buenos Aires was great; that’s often a complaint amongst reviews, but I have no complaints at all. The workspace was good, the neighborhood was amazing, side activities were fun, and our country leader/program leader Ignacio was amazing. Buenos Aires is a fantastic city, and RY was a great way to see it. I would’ve loved to have stayed longer.

One of the best experiences of my life

I simply cannot put into words and give it the proper justice it deserves how incredibly transformative my experience has been with the 4 months in Africa journey (Kwame). Having just completed what was one of the most exhilarating, surreal, mind-blowing 4.5 months with some of the most dedicated RY staff, I was able to challenge myself culturally, spiritually, and socially. My phenomenal community leader Eunice made me feel so welcomed and included and I think this experience is perfect for anyone who has an open mind, is willing to learn, is a flexible traveler, and wants to be part of a community. I will be forever grateful for having done this journey and all the kudos to the incredible RY team that made it all happen. My trip consisted of Marrakech, Nairobi, Dar Es Salaam, and Cape Town and all exceeded expectations.

I had the best month in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. I'm so sad to be leaving. The apartments, the co-working space, our group, our amazing city leader John, food, experiences, and culture were all so great. I would do Dar with RY again! John went above and beyond for us, asante sana.

Highly Highly Recommend

This was absolutely the most amazing trip I have ever experienced! What drew me in was not only getting responses to the many emails I sent when thinking about joining but the zoom meeting that was set up to make the best use of my time in answering all my questions. It brought me much comfort speaking to a live person. What sealed the deal for me was the informational webinar where I was able to learn about the program in detail. I most appreciated learning about how serious RY takes safety and that was enough for me to take the plunge! RY far exceeded my expectations, creating one of the most memorable experiences of my life. They provided clean and safe housing in a great location, fun events and recommendations, attentive staff that were always available to help (and became our friends :) and a wonderful workspace close by. I was so impressed with how RY followed through with everything they presented and am already looking to book my next trip! Thank you so much for this wonderful experience!

Florianopolis YES, Remote Year NO

I want to start by saying that Florianopolis is an amazing destination to go to and I strongly recommend anyone to visit the island. I mainly chose Florianopolis for its nature and beautiful beaches. For a first experience with a community program, I was very disappointed by what Remote Year offered:

Housing: the establishment is located in Centro (downtown) of Florianopolis and is a very recent building with great amenities (except for the gym which is extremely basic) including the co-working spaces (there are two) and the restaurants. However due to its location, if you are expecting to finish work at 5PM and be able to go the beach right after to enjoy the sun, you will need a minimum of 25-30 minutes (by car/Uber) before getting to one of the closest beach. It would sometime even take up to 50 minutes to get to a beach after work due to traffic on the island. Sunset was around 7PM in Florianopolis when I visited in January, so you could understand that I barely had any time to enjoy the beaches during the week (at lunch time) or after work. This was a great disappointment to me as I had chosen Florianopolis for its beaches and nature : I could only really enjoy them on weekends unfortunately. Conclusion: great establishment but not the best location if you were thinking of going to beaches during the week.

Built-in community :

1) One of the purposes of my trip with Remote Year was to be able to meet with people from all over the world, or at least from different countries to learn from different cultures. This is not the case at all : my group was consisted of 90% from the United-States, 5% from Canada (including myself) and the remaining 5% from different countries. I have nothing against Americans and I did meet great people in my group, however if you are expecting to meet people from different countries this will not be the case.

2) The majority of the activities amongst the group are not included in the price you pay : be ready to budget yourself a great amount of money in order to participate in the excursions with the group. The day excursions are all over $150 USD, which after talking to a few locals are way OVERpriced. For the activities below $100 USD, do not expect too much from them. I had paid $72 USD for ''snacks'' on the beach, a very short guided tour of Santo Antonio de Lisboa where you will visit a church, and go to a Samba bar at the end of the night. All things you could do for free on your own! I did ask from a reimbursement for this activity, which was a really hard process as they were trying to find excuses not to do so. They were blaming me for the following (which I quote from one of their responses by email) : ''you were late to the experience as you opted to not ride with the group and missed a good portion of it which would make it really hard to get the most of the experience''. Which was totally not the case ... After a few exchanges of emails, they did end up reimbursing me.

The base cost of the trip does not really include access to the community and activities within the group, but rather an opportunity for Remote Year to $ell you extra activities once you get there. Most of the activities I enjoyed with the group were outside of Remote Year's scope.

I still enjoyed my trip to Florianopolis as this is an amazing destination that you should definitely visit ! Brazilians are very welcoming people :) I wish I had read more of the negative reviews before booking this with Remote Year.

Reply from Remote Year

Feedback is essential to us, and we request it from every customer each month to continuously enhance our services. Over the past year, our operations in Florianopolis have thrived, largely due to incorporating customer feedback into our offerings, making it one of our most popular destinations.

Accommodation Location:
Our housing is strategically located in the city center, chosen based on extensive feedback indicating it as the ideal base for experiencing Florianopolis and its surroundings. While seemingly attractive, the beach area lacks amenities like quality restaurants, for a month stay. Staying here can result in an isolated area without good amenities. That said, we do organise weekly a ‘work-from-the-beach’ day, which allows customers to work from a designated workspace just across one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. This way, besides spending time on the beach on the weekends, we provide a structure where people can work from the beach at least once a week.

Diversity:
When it comes to diversity on our trips we are proud to be the most diverse work and travel community in the world. While we cannot guarantee that every trip captures each diverse segment of society (such as citizenship), but we believe diversity expands far beyond just where a participant holds citizenship. The group in reference was represented by several other diverse segments despite being a large majority from the United States. On average more than 40% of people who are part of Remote Year, are non-US, and that percentage is steadily increasing.

Included Experiences:
Our base trip cost does cover numerous community events and experiences, fostering connections among like-minded travelers. These include Sunday Socials, Welcome Events, Local Tours, Language & Culture Classes, and more. Engaging in these experiences enhances the overall month-long journey.

Additional Experiences:
To have a great month in any of the destinations we offer, is not dependent on spending money on additional experiences. These are provided for those who want to tailor their time to best suit them. We make this clear from our website and throughout our trip onboarding. Our City Teams put together curated local experiences based on surveying the landscape of offerings in their home city/country and finding the best and most ethical partners for us to work with for those experiences.

Florianopolis has higher prices than other parts of Brazil, and additionally prices are inflated during high season. We keep our prices low all year round, and range from $30 - $167. Those experiences over $150 are because we hire a private boat for the tours. A typical visitor, outside of RY, could expect to pay 30% more for a private boat tour, and still not have the same level of thought & detail provided by our City Managers.

In particular, the one experience detailed in this review was ‘Sunset, Samba and Good Vibes’. This is actually voted one of the top 5 favorite experiences across the Remote Year platform based on customer feedback, out of 150 experiences worldwide. It’s understandable that if someone were to miss the private historical walking tour, and half of the tasting menu, and then leave before the samba experience has finished, that you may not perceive this as good value for money.

Customer Satisfaction:
Contrary to the specific review mentioned, feedback from January in Florianopolis reflects overwhelmingly positive experiences. Overall satisfaction scores averaged 95% for experiences, 96% for community, 98% for accommodation, and 100% for the workspace, consistent with other months and destinations.

We appreciate all feedback as it aids us in continuously refining and enhancing our offerings to ensure every customer has a memorable and rewarding experience with us.

Exceptional experience and I will be doing more!

This was my first trip with Remote Year and it significantly exceeded all my expectations. It was well organized, there were plenty of different activities to meet all types of interests, and it was easy to be active daily if I wanted to. The type of people who choose to do this program are diverse but share a love of adventure and a positive mindset which resulted in interesting, thought provoking and challenging conversations. I enjoyed everyone, and this is the perfect way to travel solo but still be connected to a community of people who quickly become friends.

Toxic mold in the Bulnes Argentina

Toxic mold in the Bulnes block of apartments in Argentina. Please stop using them. Most of us felt ill & have photos of the mold.

Aside that, the tours, the workshops, the experience and company was amazing.

The people put in the Joy Bulnes apartments would have been better off booking their own accommodation (cheaper with more amenities and closer to co-working space). Please stop using Bulnes. 2 people had visible black mold with photos. One was very ill. Another 2 had the strong smell of mold, one person had a filthy apartment and the last person hated their apartment (could not cook or wash clothes). It was a 20 minute walk to the cowork space. Not everyone had washing machines in their apartment. Others had apartments closer to the workspace with swimming pools and none of these issues.

Reply from Remote Year

Thank you for passing on this feedback, and sharing both the positive and negative. This is the first time anyone has come forward with any complaint about mold in this apartment block, or getting ill. We have been using this block for many groups before, without comment. We will absolutely be sure to look into this now that we know about it.

When on a RY trip, washing machines are not a guarantee in the accommodation we provide. While a welcome addition, they are not necessarily a standard inclusion in some countries / cities. This is why we make sure people have all information about alternative local laundry facilities, which are very common in places where washing machines are not so. We aim to offer comfortable accommodations that reflect local life, which means that accommodations may differ from person to person. That being said, all accommodations should reflect our Remote Year standards.

Awesome Buenos Aires Journey with Remote Year

Remote Year did an awesome job planning our time in Buenos Aires. Nacho, our guide, really loves the city and made sure we enjoyed every bit of it. And Ari, our community leader, was always cheerful and organized fun things for us to do. Buenos Aires itself is fantastic, with its culture, people, and how comfortable I felt there. It was my first solo travel trip and Maria (the community leader from Medellín) did absolutely EVERYTHING to make each and every one of us feel comfortable, happy and fulfilled. Having someone in the city for recommendations, support, and fun made me feel like I could really live like a local.

My apartment was in the perfect location, the SIM card they provided worked the second I set it up and any bump along the road, Maria was there to help solve it. I really could make the experience what I wanted, while being a part of a larger community.

1 month in Buenos Aires with Remote Year

Just did 1 month in Buenos Aires with Remote Year.

A fantastic time in a fantastic place - and RY made the whole thing very simple. They sorted a nice apartment, a good and effective co-workspace and a range of events and activities across the month 9some included, some for an extra charge) which gave lots of different way to explore the city.

RY did a great job of sorting the logistics and selecting good accommodation in a safe and entertaining area, walkable from the workspace. The office itself was well equipped, accessible and had good internet connection.

And the joy of RY is that they brought a big group of people together, so there was always something going on, or someone interested in the same activity as me, so I could choose what to do, where to visit and who to hang out with! Or have a quiet night in or a gentle day in a park and a coffee shop.

Any issues were dealt with quickly by the RY team who went the extra mile to make sure that everyone was welcome, comfortable and supported to do the month the way they wanted to.

Could I have sorted all that out myself? Maybe - an Air B&B and a co-work were findable via a web search, but the connection to a community of other digital travellers, mixing work and travel - that's not something I could generate myself. Plus the Journey Manager and City Manager were both awesome!!

5x Your Business While Traveling the World: Let Remote Year Plan Your Journey and Social Life – Thanks RY!

Over the past transformative year with Remote Year (Feng Shan Group), I've lived my dream as a digital nomad and entrepreneur, and the experience has been nothing short of extraordinary.

The community you have experts in every niche at your fingertips, web designers, marketers, social media experts, sales experts, SEO specialists, leadership coaches, Virtual Assistants, software engineers you name it.

Entrepreneurship can be a lonely journey, but Remote Year changes that narrative. It's not just about travelling; it's about joining a vibrant community where experts in every field are at your fingertips. From web designers to marketers, social media pros to SEO specialists. I'd get answers to burning questions and solve complex problems, saving me time and resources on hiring experts.

Plus, Remote Year takes care of all travel and social logistics, letting me focus entirely on growing my business.

In less than one year I have:

- Monthly revenue skyrocketed from $7k to an impressive $35k.
- Explored and checked off 13 new countries from my bucket list.
- Surpassed $500k in sales in only my second year in business.
- Transformed a five-figure business into a thriving multiple six-figure endeavor.
- Nine out of twelve months were my best in terms of business performance.
- Personally, I shed 30 lbs, reduced body fat from 14% to 8%, and achieved a better life-work balance.
- Formed lifelong friendships along the way.

Thank you again for not just planning my travel life, and my social life but for creating an environment that fueled networking and support, propelling me to achieve my goals this year!

Last note, the staff are extremely helpful and amazing from a client perspective. If you have a choice to choose your Community Leader, Ask for Laura P, I couldn't have asked for a better leader and now a new lifelong friend.

You could feel how important it was for them to make this a positive, valuable, and FUN experience for the entire group, and they were successful. They also considered our wants and needs are pivoted when necessary for the benefit of the group. I cannot imagine doing this without them! I love my apartment, and felt part of the local community very quickly. Steph, Pedro, Viviana - THANK YOU!

Beware - consider skipping longer journeys

RY has a great mission and it is a great vehicle to meet other solo travelers! But beware, this company doesn’t treat their customers properly. It is tolerable for a one month long program but if you want to sign up for a 12 month journey you’ll quickly find that they ignore critical feedback and treat you like children at camp rather than adults who are paying thousands of dollars for a service. And the feedback is fair and basic things around flights, accommodations, transparency on excursions, navigating the ry community, etc. They seem to forget that we’re not on vacation, we live here now…
All I can say is that I’m so disappointed.

Unforgettable experience!

Wow, where do I even start? My 4 months in LATAM with Remote Year were an absolute blast. I got to explore Lima, Medellin, Antigua and Mexico City and that’s not even the best part…

The most amazing part of this journey has been connecting with incredible people. The relationships we've built go beyond just friendships – they're like unbreakable threads that have woven us together across different cultures. Each person has brought a special touch to my experience, leaving a trail of lasting memories in my heart. MORENO FOR LIFE!

And speaking of Morenos, let me give a shoutout to Omar, our community leader - an absolute ROCK STAR! His personality radiates thoughtfulness and fun, making every step of the journey even more special. Omar's knack for bringing people together, his genuine care for each member of our group, and his unwavering enthusiasm have truly elevated the experience. From organizing incredible excursions to creating opportunities for us to connect on a deeper level, Omar made every moment unforgettable. He's not just a leader; he's a friend and an integral part of the memories I now hold dear.

Remote Year's magic lies in its ability to simplify travel. Precise planning and thoughtful curation let me immerse myself, free from logistical stress. With something for everyone, whether a thrill seeker, nature lover, history buff, foodie, or adventurer, they cater to all.

What sets Remote Year apart is its community spirit. More than travelers, we're a family united by a shared passion for exploration and connection. These bonds surpass borders and time, creating a network I'm honored to belong to forever.

So thank you Remote Year for my newfound tramily (borrowed this from Gert) and all these unforgettable moments!

Yes, you could travel for cheaper but they community, ease of planning and resources made this an amazing value.

Croatia - this was the best way to spend a summer month! The activities vary between local unique experiences and tons of outdoor activities. I enjoyed every activity as I signed up for most of them! Split and the other towns we visited aren’t that big but the beach clubs and nightlife were amazing.

Lisbon - the RY team here was the absolute best! They were so involved and made us truly feel at home. Lisbon itself is one of the most vibrant cities I’ve ever visited. It’s very convenient to several beaches, the population is very diverse, tons of different neighborhoods and the nightlife was so fun. There is truly something for everyone here.

An incredible abroad experience 🌎💫

The Valencia month and group was amazing and surpassed all expectations (!!) Marina was the absolute best community leader, going above and beyond, making sure our group was getting the most out of our time in Spain. The only thing I would have changed is working less so that I could have enjoyed more of the excursions 😆 Forever grateful for my time spent in the city and for all of the amazing connections fostered with our group

Remote Year creates amazing experiences for remote employees…

Remote Year provided a great framework to make my stay in Japan a memorable one. First, the Remote Year (RY) Team assisted me in preparing for my stay before getting on my flight there. Second, the RY team provided the entire cohort with great accommodations to live and work from Japan. It was especially helpful for me because I was able to successfully complete my work overnight in Japan when I had to report to my regular job. Third, the RY team in Osaka did a great job teaching us with important Japanese customs, phrases, and other know-how, so we can effectively live, travel, and communicate in Japan. Fourth, the RY team created a variety of events to expose us to different historical and modern experiences there. Last, I built lasting friendships with my cohort, and we will look to keep in touch for the rest of our lives now that the program has completed. Thank you, Remote Year for setting this up!

From the rooftop to the beach

This experience was amazing from top to bottom, from the amazing coordinator, Marina, who was always fun to talk and hangout with as well as provided the group with any helpful tips or info needed. To the people and places i got to meet/visit along the way. Nothing makes a trip better than actually getting to vibe with people while still being able to just be yourself. The group of people i got to hang out with during the trip was amazing, and while not everyone did all the trips all the time being able to share what we did with each other made every small thing just as big.

A life-changing experience.

The Remote Year month in Valencia was one of the best and most impactful experiences of my life. The leaders of the group planned and facilitated many opportunities to get to know the city and fellow travelers. We learned about the amazing food and culture of Valencia and the experience was so much more fun with our new friends.

Remote Year in Floripa was a 10/10

This is my second Remote Year month long journey and it lived up the extremely high expectations that the first one set. This time I spent a month in Floripa, Brazil which was led by Thiago. Every experience was extremely well thought out and executed to perfection. The other people who were a part of the journey made it that much more special.

I would highly recommend Floripa and Remote Year to anyone who is considering it.

First time with Remote Year

This was my first time traveling with Remote Year and was absolutely amazing. From the very beginning I felt connected to my group and it felt like we were old friends in a new adventure. For me, the fact that we were a small group (10 people) made the difference because we could always go everywhere together and that really helps building a community.

As far as the staff goes, I have nothing but positive words. Thiago always went above and beyond for us, helping us everytime we needed him (in my case, even before the trip) and the tours were super well organized. Liliane was great in all tours. She was always smiling and happy to help and teach about the brasilian culture.

As a company, I would definitely recommend Remote Year and absolutely would go on another adventure with you. It's amazing how you think about every single detail and try your best to make the experience an absolute 20/10.

RY Medellin - October 23’

I did a month long trip in Medellin through remote year and I cannot recommend it highly enough!! Maria was our leader in Medellin for the month and she was the absolute best throughout the entire experience. Maria always had everything perfectly organized when it came to our coworking space, as well as our activities/excursions or even recommendations for local restaurants and things to do. She can take care of it all and was always there to help when I had questions. I am planning to return in the near future, and it’s because remote year gave me such a good experience. The city is beautiful and the people were all very friendly. If you’re looking for a program to explore a new part of the world while working remotely, then look no further than remote year! Maria has you covered for an amazing experience.

1-Month in Floripa

I thoroughly enjoyed my first month and first time experience with remote year. Thiago and Cata were a fantastic team! They both went above and beyond as community leaders/managers. They both brought positive community and culture to my experience. I am forever grateful to have crossed paths in life with both of these amazing humans in the world.
Floripa is a beautiful island for those interested in beaches, surf, fishing and more. The accommodations were better than expected and offered convenience. Join the experiences to get the most of the island and visit Rio! Each experience will take you to a different part of the island and you will see it all if you join them all.
Things to note: accommodations are in the center of floripa, not by a beach or on water. If you are looking for beach life, there is a Selina near by (30mins) take a day and work from there to enjoy the beach.
The town closes down on certain days of the week, so be prepared to stay in or go to the beach/outdoors during those days.
There is a pool, small gym, sauna, laundry, coworking and restaurants in the building.
Local restaurants/shops and bars are walkable- venture out.
Uber is your way around - download the app, it’s easy.
Safety** you are as safe as you make yourself. Don’t be a target and you’ll be finer than wine.
Some might read this like oh she’s a 20 something, probably travels all time, rent free, single, women.
Nope! I am married in my 30s, have a mortgage, 2 dogs and work full time. I traveled alone, budgeted for my trip ahead of time and took a few days off while I was on my journey.
So you can do it too, I hope this helps to whoever you are that is debating the ifs/ands/buts. Positive mind will bring positive vibes.

Immaculate vibes in Lisbon!

Made a last minute decision to do my 6th RY month in Lisbon and let me tell you, a time was had!

Lisbon is such an easy city to love— the weather was great, my apartment was gorgeous, the people were warm and those pasteis de natas? Oh boy.

I couldn’t have asked for a more lit group of people to do this month with; and the icing on the cake for me was our city managers Viviana and Pedro. They took such good care of us.

All around immaculate vibes in Lisbon - 10/10 highly recommend!

AMAZING TIME IN LISBON

My first RY and what an awesome month it was! Incredible experiences from the first day to the last, jam-packed with so much good food, good vibes and history built into one month. Viviana and Pedro made sure we got to experience all that Lisbon had to offer, and they were so kind and patient with us. I would have stayed another two months in a heartbeat if the option was there. This is the program that sold me on RY.

Don't hesitate, visit Cape Town NOW!

If you're thinking about visiting Cape Town, don't hesitate, DO IT NOW! You will not regret it. I just spent an incredible month in Cape Town with the Remote Year team and I can't wait to visit South Africa again, and also can't wait to join another RY destination. Cape Town--including it's people, it's landscape, it's food scene--is incredibly diverse and has something for everyone. I can't count how many times I mouthed "amazing" while driving down the Garden Route and taking in the breathtaking views.

Amazing Experience

I had an amazing experience from start to finish. The program was a great blend of both cultural experiences in Lima as well as adventures out side of the city. The Lima team did a great job of welcoming us to the city and Peru as a whole. Definitely recommend this to everyone.

Magical Month in Peru!

As my first RY program, I didn't have many expectations about what my month in Peru would look like. But even in my wildest dreams, I would have never predicted the magic that was my experience in Peru!

Ari + Fran were incredible leaders for our group and curated the most well rounded, exciting, and meaningful month for us. Ari was amazing at spreading positive energy, organizing events that were tailored to the interests we expressed, and fostering strong relationships within the group that allowed us to build a strong bond. Fran was extremely thoughtful in selecting experiences in the city (and in our weekend excursions) that maximized on the wide variety of activities Peru has to offer. The stories Fran shared gave us a unique perspective on the country that made each location we visited unforgettable.

Throughout the month, we traveled through every climate and landscape you can imagine. Between the natural beauty of the Amazon Jungle, to the breathtaking sunsets of the desert, to the larger than life views in Andes mountains -- every weekend had something brand new to offer. There were also plenty of opportunities to ignite your inner adrenaline junkie on each weekend getaway, which was a surprise I was extra pumped about!

To wrap it up, if you crave adventure & variety, great food & great people, Peru is the right place for you!

RY Cape Town

I did RY - Cape Town and it was one of the most special month’s of my life! I had a great group to accompany me in my first RY program and felt like a real family - we all looked after each other and were open to join any and all experiences! RY leaders Nat and Mpumi were wonderful and had great recommendations of where to go in the city depending on the interest / activity. Also accommodations were very nice, clean and modern - close proximity to the co-working space and all kinds of amenities.

First RY program - 4 months in Asia

I knew someone who did the 12-month RY program, and it inspired me to join the 4-month journey. I chose to do Asia, and it was my first time traveling this long as a digital nomad.

This is one of the best decisions I've made, and I've made a lifetime of memories. I felt set up for success for the journey with RY providing plenty of onboarding materials and webinars, and my city leader (Sharon) setting up a 1-1 call to answer any questions I had.

The city leaders in Hanoi (Trang and Chau), Chiang Mai (Miao), and Goa (Chantal) were amazing and were really thoughtful about how they established the city and experience. The city teams did a great job giving recommendations and tips, answering our many questions, and really helping us immerse in the culture. Our community leader, Sharon, was also fantastic and had a great personality to lead our crew. She made our community very strong by setting up fun unofficials or organizing a casual dinner.

Some of the group also decided to do our own transition trips in between (outside of RY), which was great to squeeze in some other countries on the way. I also had some friends visit along the way that was able to meet the group which was fun.

I would also say that part of this experience you will need an open mind. Traveling does not always go smoothly and hiccups will happen, but it's all part of the experience.

I'd also recommend to pack as light as possible. However, you can always ship stuff back as many in my group did.

Overall, take the leap!

CDMX—you’ll never regret it

CDMX is just amazing. The RY apartments are mind blowing. So extra. Each 3 bedroom could fit 30 ppl (we did that a few times.) RY never ceases to amaze me in how well they choose their guides. Giral was our city leader. 11/10. Yaa was the community leader for a group that began their first month of a year long journey in cdmx. Also 11/10. With Giral, you get deep into all that makes cdmx special. With Yaa, we got constant attention to our group needs. Both did everything to give us an unforgettable experience

I've used RY twice now (Medellín and Tirana) both we're great. I've been group traveling since 2018 but it was always vacation based travel. Now I work remotely and wanted to travel longer and work so I googled and found RY.
The concept is perfect because I can pick dates and locations that work for me and know that I'll have friends there when I arrive who are like minded.

Stop what you’re doing and book Lisbon

Stop what you’re doing and book Lisbon. This was my 5th month with RY and this was one of my favorite months. The Azores trip and Sintra trips were unforgettable - just might have to do it again. The apartments are modern, luxurious honestly- the best apartments in RY yet. Work from the Ideas workspace rooftop for incredible views of the city. Most importantly, spend the month with Vivianna and Pedro, they’ll show you the best time - trust me. Rain or shine, Lisbon has something for everyone & the food scene is amazing.

Florianopolis with Remote Year

Florianopolis with Remote Year
The accommodations and workspace were extremely comfortable and convenient. The City manager, Thiago and the group leader, Cata, added great value to the experience with their suggestions for activities, their enthusiasm and with handling any issues that came up as well as becoming friends. The other participants were an interesting and friendly group of people and provided significant camaraderie.

First Month in Florianopolis, Brazil

I have had an a great month in Florianopolis! Being able to work remote is a privilege but can be isolating. Remote Year has created such a wonderful opportunity to have the resources to work hard in a great co-working space while also playing hard in a new country with an incredible community. It was been so nice to see how warm and inclusive everyone is. Thiago went above and beyond to make our experience here in Floripa wonderful, and to introduce us to his cities (including Rio!). And Cata brings so much warm energy to the group!

Epic first trip W/ RY to Mexico City!

After years of seeing ads, I finally pulled the trigger with a 1-month trip to Mexico City. I was paired with two amazing roommates within a walking/bike ride distance to the co-working space and a ton of cafes. The local team and Community Leader were active, attentive, and available the entire time. The events helped everyone easily bond, while learning about the city and shaping out and overall memorable experience.

First Month at Remote Year

I think the power of Remote Year lies in it's community & community leaders. We've all joined this journey to explore and discovery new places, but having a local team lead us to the magical places and experience the less touristy places is the real value add here. Amazing community leaders, who go above and beyond, to help you enjoy and navigate new cities is invaluable. And they're just lovely humans. Couldn't ask for greater leaders in Cata & Thiago on the Pele Journey. Great team, great experience.

How I Became a Lifetime Remote

I went on the Asia 4 Month journey to Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, and India.

This was my first digital nomad experience, I took the leap and loved it. Now I'm hooked and plan on doing more programs.

Accommodations always felt safe, I can't guarantee your experience but I always had my own shower/bathroom which was great.

The city teams especially Miao in Thailand, Trang and Chau in Vietnam, and Chatal in India made the experience practically seamless. They were beyond helpful and often went the extra mile to not only answer questions or offer options but help set them up.

My Community Leader, Sharon, is a seasoned expert. She made sure we had a good community with lots of unofficial events and also embodied a practice of work life balance.

For some context on expectations I budgeted ~$1,500 usd after the monthly cost for each country including experiences and souvenirs. Your own travel style will impact what you spend but this budget worked very well for me, I never missed an event for budget issues and always came in very close to budget.

Doing Remote Year is a no brainer.

These ease and trust that everything is taken care of is invaluable. Especially when traveling solo in unknown places. Just having your accommodations and arrival transportation set, and having lifelines on the ground makes the experience so easy. Plus, a built in community of fellow travelers makes it that much more special. I can't recommend Remote Year enough.

Lisbon - April 2023

One of the best things about Remote Year is the community experience. Lisbon was absolutely beautiful, and an easy city to explore in, but I think the RY team, taking care of us and the logistics, helped make the experience more enjoyable. Pedro is very hospitable, and ensures that everyone has access to what they need. From hair dryers to helping book an appointment at a hospital, when getting sick, he continuously followed up, and kept us feeling safe.

The Lisbon RY team (Pedro and Viv) went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable, safe, and had a good time.

If you do sign up for Remote Year, Lisbon is a must, especially with Pedro at the helm.

From the moment we arrived, Marina and Julio welcomed us with open arms and genuine warmth. They went above and beyond to ensure that our month in Valencia was nothing short of extraordinary.

Much Love for Osaka, but much TLC needed RY

I loved my time in Osaka, but the the Remote Year Osaka Program does need a bit of rehab. I joined the 1-Month Osaka Remote Journey. The accommodations were comfy and suitable for 1 person. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of room I had. The City Team was knowledgeable and very chill. They set a great atmosphere for the group to gel together.

That being said there are parts of the program that need work. I was incorrectly invoiced for the trip, this was corrected after 48 hours. Prior to joining the program onboarding was also disjoined and not very seamless. The Add-Ons that we needed to purchase for the trip should have been accessible 30 days prior to the arrival date. But in this instance I received them about a week in advance of the arrival date which made planning for the month long trip rather stressful.

My time in Osaka was fun, and I am grateful for the group that I was with. The group can definitely make or break the experience.

Overall it was enjoyable. My group consisted of 1-month and 4-month remotes which did not mingle together as often as my previous Remote Year Lima group of only 1-Month Remotes, but when we were together the group was relatively cohesive. The events were nice, but not always fully thought out. No snacks will be provided on your day trips, so plan ahead.

Ground transportation during the one month stay is not included, though this is listed as part of what your fee covers. The only transportation which is covered is transport from the airport to the Remote Year accommodation (If you choose your own accommodation for the month you will need to cover that cost). You will need to cover the cost of transportation back to the airport at the end of your 1 Month Journey.

I would recommend this journey for experienced travelers interested in visiting Osaka, but be aware it does have some procedural flaws making the experience a bit uncomfortable at times.

Reply from Remote Year

Thank you for your review of the month, it’s great to know that despite some challenges, you loved your time in Osaka, and the Ry accommodation and team delivered what we would expect.

Because this was our first month back in Osaka, and with a new team, we experienced some unexpected delays in making sure the experience marketplace was ready, and we truly apologize for this. Thankfully this was a one off and we are back on track, having this ready good time for future months.

We’ll review your experience as part of the Onboarding too, to see where improvements could be made.

We hope it is clear on our site that everywhere we talk about transport that arrival transfer is included for those who book Remote Year Accommodation, but return transfer is not. This is the same for when refreshments are or are not included in certain experiences. We value the feedback, and your thoughts have been passed on to the Osaka and website team so we can look into if we can make these any more clear to save future confusion.

Thank you again for traveling with us and for giving us these details. Hopefully Osaka wasn’t your last stop!

My experience with València ry exceeded…

My experience with València ry exceeded my expectations. I’ve been on many trips with remote year but what I always find to be the best experience while traveling with them is that when the city managers really care about the quality time and getting to know the travelers. To them they see us as their friends rather than customers, and that to me is a special relationship because you not only get amazing advice and service from ry team but you also get a local friend. Every week and sometimes multiple times a week they would create dinner parties and cafe group get togethers to help create a strong and stable community. And they would also help challenge you with language learning by making Spanish speaking only cafe lunch where they challenge you to learn Spanish and order in Spanish. I truly loved and enjoyed this experience as a whole and even better I am very confident that when I do come back to live in Spain for 90 days I already have a community and friends🥰

10/10 Recommend for Anyone Who Loves Learning & Traveling

I can’t recommend Remote Year enough! I just returned from a month in Split in September and it was AMAZING! The city team is so welcoming, warm and knowledgeable, it was clear from the start they wanted to make everyone’s stay the best possible. The experiences were all so much fun and absolutely worth it. The ease of having these excursions planned out for us made it so stress free and really allowed us to maximize our time. An August Adventure in Colombia with Remote Year!

Thanks to Remote Year, this August, I found myself taken in by the charms of Medellin!

For anyone thinking about going - do it!

Balancing work and play was a made easy with the coworking space. I loved the atmosphere and found I was super productive throughout the month.

A huge, huge shoutout to Cata and Maria! With their energy, oversight and guidance, my trip was made so much easier. They were both super attentive, making it easy to dive into the joys of Medellin without the stress.

Chiang Mai blew me away!

Chiang Mai was my 7th month with Remote Year. I went into it with little knowledge or expectations, and it blew me away.

Miao was an amazing city manager who had a recommendation for literally everything and joined us on all of our excursions (and I do all of them). She really added so much to the experience with her local knowledge and willingness to jump into all of our activities.

The neighborhood was safe and welcoming, and I found many creature comforts that I had been missing nearby. The workspace was outstanding and 100 meters from our accommodations. I did not have a bad meal the entire month I was there, and the daily/weekend experiences were top notch. For the most part, I have loved either the RY city or the experiences, but not both. In Chiang Mai, it hit on both for me!

I heard of Remote Year for about 2 years before joining and I finally made the decision to move forward. I chose Lisbon as I have never been, but I heard nothing but positive experiences from friends and family that have visited previously. Even with that being the case, I chose to come here with no expectations.

From the minute I landed, I have had nothing but an amazing experience. The Remote Year team grabbed me from the airport and took me straight to my beautiful accommodation. Between the organized events, gorgeous beaches/weather, amazing food, nightlife, warm locals and potentially above all the RY Team here in Lisbon - I could not have even imaged having this type of experience.

I could not recommend this experience highly enough for anyone looking to come to Europe! 5/5 starts no questions asked!!

Phenomenal

My RY trip in Peru was an incredible experience with phenomenal trips available every weekend and experiences throughout the week. I felt I got to see so much of Peru this way and had one of the best months of my life. Wish I could live this month on repeat.

Lima (tldr - you need to sign up)

Lima was the most jam packed month I’ve had with RY. Each weekend experience is as amazing as the one before. The city is a foodie’s paradise and it is very affordable. Ari and Fran make Lima feel like home. Don’t hesitate to sign up for Lima and all its experiences!

Buenos Aires - Nov 2022

My trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina with Remote Year was spectacular! I am so glad I took the leap. This was my first trip with Remote Year. It was wonderful to spend time in an amazing city with a great support system. I felt prepared for my travels with all the information available on the Remote Year hub. I was able to work without interruption when I needed to, and I was also able to join the fun. My work was supportive, and I held boundaries while traveling to ensure my work was getting done while also having time to take full advantage of the opportunity. The coworking space and my apartment were great. They were both located in a wonderful, safe neighborhood with lots of cafes and places to explore. I didn’t have any complications or safety concerns when I was in Argentina, and everyone was very nice. Nayla is spectacular and took pride in organizing ways for us to explore and learn (both in Buenos Aires and throughout the country). It was fun to share experiences with my fellow Remote Year travelers, and the Remote Year staff was experienced and professional (and fun). It was an amazing experience, and I am so grateful for the opportunity. I have recommended the program to so many people upon my return to the US. Thank you Remote Year!

Buenos Aires Remote Year Month

Buenos Aires was my first city with Remote Year and I could not have had a better experience. It was so nice to have everything taken care of as soon as I showed up in the city. The apartments were clean and comfortable and I loved the neighborhood. Nayla and Nacho were really involved with our group every step of the way. They went above and beyond and even planned tours to show us special places in the city on their own time. They were always around to help and were eager to share their favorite spots in the city. The remote year community is so welcoming, and such a great way to meet new people and get out of your comfort zone.

My entire month in Mexico was wonderful

My entire month in Mexico was wonderful!!! The community, city, people, food, experiences offered, etc. Our community leader Omar was spectacular and will always be in my heart. I truly feel that I've made a group of friends for life and would recommend Remote Year to anyone that can do it. Can't wait for my next trip!!!

Best decision I ever made

Best decision I ever made! My one month trip to Colombia with Remote Year has been my favorite travel experience to date. Our city managers Cata and Maria made the entire month so seamless that I was able to balance focusing on work and enjoying my free time. They both went above and beyond making us feel right at home in their country and it made all the difference having locals as our City Guides.

Albania, July 2023 - Great Experience

Remote Year did an impressive job with the trip I took to Albania in July of 2023. The housing and logistics were great. I was late to the country due to flight delays, but Ardit and Gert worked hard on producing an A+ video of how to access my apartment. I’d nominate them for an Academy Award if I could. And Anna was waiting at the airport to get me where I needed to go. It was great after a LONG day of being stuck in Heathrow Airport. After arriving at the apartment, I found a wonderful and spacious living space with great AC (key for Europe in July), a washing machine, and all the accoutrement for a great month. The apartment was close to activities and to the co-work, but just enough away that it was peaceful.
The add-on activities should not be missed. Albania is a beautiful country. The Riviera is gorgeous, and I even got to stay a few extra days. The Albanian Alps trip was great. Its difficult hiking, no doubt about it – but worth the effort. And, if I made it…I’m sure you can. Just don’t expect a “Walk in the Park”. Speaking of which, the park in Tirana was also lovely and huge. Be sure to check that out.

So what was the best part about the trip? I'm not sure i can pick a best part. Meeting such an interesting, intelligent, and compassionate group of people interested in the world around them was awesome. And, the weekend trips like the Riviera and the Accursed Mountains were tremendous.
All in all a fabulous job by Ardit and Gert to introduce us to an interesting and beautiful country still developing on the international tourism stage. I highly recommend this trip.

For the partially remote workers

Since I am not always traveling and not always a remote worker, the months I have been able to take with the program are extra special to me and help remind me of the many ways people find a balance to travel and work. But often I find the exposure to new places and people make the most lasting impression on me. It always helps me as I look ahead for my own work as I try to incorporate more travel into my life.

Had an incredible month in Mexico City…

My new favorite way to travel

The experience was amazing. There were only 9 of us in Mexico City and some of our activities got canceled because we couldn’t meet the quota BUT Omar, our city leader was amazing . Even simple dinners were a blast. I was 30 years older than most of the group but we all blended so well. We were silly most of the time and I laughed the whole month. There were hiccups on the admin side before the trip but everything worked out well in the end. I wanted my own place (and I do recommend that now that you can chose your own).Be prepared for your house feeling extra quiet when you get home. It’s a bit of an adjustment after having such a fun group of people on vacation with you. Everything Omar said was funny and I miss having someone like that around to entertain!

Remote Year: The Ultimate Life Hack

My experience with remote year was life-changing, and the best money I have ever spent in personal development or networking. This was my first time living and working remote, so I felt comfortable traveling with our group of 14 to Mexico City. The whole experience cultivated a tightknit community. I have made lifelong friends and indispensable business connections, one of which is Giral, a.k.a. Paco he really made us all and me in particular feel at home in a foreign city, he went out of his way to get us reservations at the best bars, restaurants and clubs in the city. He knew all the hotspots, and as a Mexico City native was the ultimate tour guide, spiritual, Sherpa, and instant best friend, draw is a shining star in the remote year community. My experience would not have been the same without him. We are now lifelong friends and I consider him my brother. I had a great experience with remote year, and I am now considering a one year track around the world in 2024 special thanks to Paco and , the Remote, your community for making this experience, stress-free, fun, easy, and rewarding. I highly recommend here to any one who is a first time international traveler and even seasoned pros. I highly recommend going “full send” on all of the experiences and trips. Book all the experiences, go on all the trips, eat all the food, and drink all the Mezcal. I am currently eyeing trips for 2024. Ideally, Paco will be the leader of the trip or he will at least be in the city when we are there. Planning to go back to Mexico City sometime soon and will definitely be kicking it with Paco then! Muchos Gracias!!!
