Hacker Paradise reviews from previous trips to Argentina

Placencia, Belize

My girlfriend and I joined one of Noma Collective's Belize trips, and it was a blast.

We both work remotely. As a couple, when you're new to a place, it's easy to end up only talking to each other and experiencing somewhere new through the same lens you use to get through a normal Tuesday. We've always found that group activities add dimension, so we wanted people to explore Belize with, and hopefully pull in some other travelers and locals along the way. And that's exactly what we got.

While at Hobbs' Brew Bar, we ended up meeting a fellow traveler who was a hair stylist, and she gave me a great haircut. At Rumfish in downtown Placencia, we met a sophisticated older British woman, who we ended up spending a poolside afternoon with on one of the weekends, sipping cocktails and shooting the breeze.

On weekdays, it was nice to unwind on the beach with like-minded people. My girlfriend and I don't always want to do the same thing at the same moment, and being part of a bigger group solved that. I went paddleboarding and played volleyball with some of the gang while she and a few others went to the tiki bar. It wasn't cliquish at all. Everyone was down to earth, and it was amazing how fast it turned into an actual community.

Several of the people from that trip are still our friends. We house-sat for two of them while they went on a later Noma trip to Argentina, and another crashed at our place in LA for a weekend en route to Singapore. We're hoping to get to the Bahamas with a couple of them this fall.

As for the practical stuff, the room was great. A kitchen you could actually cook in, views of the Caribbean, a balcony, air conditioning, a chill zone. The Wi-Fi handled video calls and streaming without drama. The food was consistently good, and my girlfriend is vegan. The kitchen at Umaya always had a real meal for her. Ever since that trip, she's hooked on guava jam.

The weekend activities were fun and not obligatory, which was the right call. We explored Placencia, hiked to a waterfall, and spent real time with people outside work hours, but nobody was taking attendance. One weekend we rented a car, dipped off, and drove toward the Guatemala border.

I'm still grateful for the friendships that came out of that trip. It was well organized, welcoming, and pretty much everything we hoped for. And despite having that much fun, I still got my work done and didn't get fired. I'd travel with them again.

Buenos Aires Edition

I came on the Buenos Aires edition in October as I wanted to get to know some nomads from around the world. We did a nice mix of local stuff from a Boca game to nights out at a cultural center . Now I hope to go to Africa next year with them. Maybe see you there

Fun trip, not sure value add was worth cost outside of the community

The trip I had to Buenos Aires was amazing. Great city, lots to do, perfect location, even better group of people, but Iโ€™m not sure the community itself (the main pro of hacker) was work nearly 3000$. To explain, I didnโ€™t really use any other features. The coworking didnโ€™t have a lot of private space that was functional (too hot, booked, too small, etc) so most of the time I worked from our apartment. I didnโ€™t get my moneys worth there but if you didnโ€™t have meetings it would have been fine.

Second. The apartment wasnโ€™t very clean. It needed a through dusting, mopping, etc upon arrival and never felt that clean w our weekly cleanings. It was in a great neighborhood though.

Third, facilitators and logistics. Other than the housing planning, didnโ€™t feel like there was too much value add here. We did have a couple of cool events lined up (la bomba and some theater performance) that I liked. However there are better asado than the one we did and we had a less than stellar soccer game exp due to overselling that wasnโ€™t the hosts fault. Those I talked to felt we could have been much better set up with money expectations. It was covered that you can send yourself money on WU and exchanges however a major point missed that I learned in a week is for BA bring as MUCH USD as you think youโ€™ll spend. Youโ€™ll never get as close to the rate from WU but this was something we has to learn on our own even though the hosts have been there before. Also for the price we should also be picked up and taken to the airport, know our group events weekly ahead of the trip for our own planning, etc. If should have also been shared that BA is a VERY reserverion based city and if you went into the best restaurants , to see the opera, etc, you need to make reservations 1-2 months ahead. It felt very lower intern level logistics for a group of professionals who are working hard jobs and like to be on top of things.

Lastly big group dinners didnโ€™t happen as much due to Splitwise. The app is a pain in the butt to use and requires double entry on slack and the app. Most people preferred to just dine on small groups and pay cash to avoid the headache.

Overall the community is amazing. I love the people I met. Would try another company to compare as prices have gone up since this trip. If it was cheaper, would do again. Wouldnโ€™t recommend program only, because being in the same space is worth it, however if youโ€™re just using the housing, itโ€™s pricy.

I can't say enough great things about Hacker Paradise

I can't say enough great things about Hacker Paradise. I just finished three months with them, and nearly immediately signed up for two more trips. HP has breadth and depth in both the social/community and professional/networking realms. Every person I met was interesting, thoughtful, worldly, experienced, and kind. The "work hard play hard" mentality is a strong part of the culture. Long days at the stunning coworking locations are followed by evening adventures in various global hotspots-- and after all of that, coming back to our private rooms in comfortable housing caps off a perfect, full day. There is no wonder nearly every participant I've met either has or plans to return to the program. Lifelong friendships are created, professional connections made, and personal growth expanded. If you are curious about a digital nomad lifestyle, or simply want to experience a new city with a community already at your fingertips, there is not a better choice than Hacker Paradise.

HP was the experience that I was always looking for start traveling and working around the world

HP was the experience that I was always looking for start traveling and working around the world. It was incredible being surrounded by amazing people, share unforgettable experiences with them, learning fun things like surf or tango, things that I didn't realize that I'd enjoy them being just for my own and at the same time, feeling that any day was different with these people, there was always something fun to do and there was always someone to work with. It was life changing for me to have joined the program. I can't wait till next time!

Currently on my fourth trip with Hacker Paradise

Currently on my fourth trip with Hacker Paradise. The top four things that keep me coming back are:

1. Program organization - Facilitators Spencer and Dale are work relentlessly to make sure accommodations and co-working spaces meet the needs of the participants. If there are issues, for example with internet speeds or housing problems, they are on top of the problem right away, sometimes before we even notice it happening. They are responsive and understand the needs of digital nomads because they both been there.

2. Participants - Hacker Paradise does a great job of selecting people for their programs. Most everyone I've met during my trips have been dedicated, accepting, interesting, friendly, curious, and just generally good travelers. They work hard and yes, they party hard too but it's all great fun. I've made friends for life here. You can judge how great the group is and how addicting this lifestyle is by that fact that so many people either extend their stay or wish they could because the group is so hard to leave.

3. Diversity - Not only is there a diversity in gender but also in age and in career paths. Usually Hacker implies developer but in reality there are people from a number of different jobs here and the facilitators seem to put emphasis on choosing people from variety of backgrounds.

4. Lastly, Location - HP has gone to places this year that I've wanted to visit and the program allows me time to really get to know places with other people who are interested in seeing them too.

Hacker Paradise was a wonderful experience for me

Hacker Paradise was a wonderful experience for me. I was impressed with the level of organization Spencer & Dale were able to uphold throughout my stay in Argentina. Throughout all the issues with accommodations, co-working space or what have you, they did an amazing job. Equally as impressive, was the quality of people present in the program. Ultimately, you get out of this what you put into it. If you're looking for an incredible community, new memories, and are able to put yourself out there, this comes highly recommended :)

The Best - Unforgettable Experiences!

Iโ€™ve done 2 Noma trips, and both have been fantastic. Truly a gift to find a company that wants to help remote workers make the most of our situation, learn about the world, and travel with other cool remote workers! I have seen and learned so much through Noma. I love the people Iโ€™ve met, and special shoutout to my amazing community leaders Leo & Roxy who made each trip so unforgettable! Donโ€™t hesitate, go on a Noma trip!

Iโ€™ll be honest, I wasnโ€™t sure

Iโ€™ll be honest, I wasnโ€™t sure what to expect of the concept. I heard about Belize and wanted an authentic experience; getting to know the locals, meet some cool/like minded remote workers , but not just be in an expat bubble. Noma curated the trip perfectly.

We went in some amazing trips, communication was key, with our two guides/hosts who made us feel at home amd were literally on 24/7 with just a knock on the or or WhatsApp message away.

I ended up staying two weeks after the trip was done because I made some friends in town who had a boat and taught me how to spearfish, I found a new passion :) thanks Noma :)
