Africa Nomads: Ethiopia 🇪🇹

We stayed with Africa Nomads for 3 months, starting in Lamu and continuing with them on their first 2 chapters outside of Kenya to Addis Ababa and Zanzibar. It was by far one of the best experiences we’ve ever had and I’m already looking forward to our next trip with them ❤️

We were lucky enough to spend time with each of the hosts, Alejandra, Steve, Felipe and Pepe, and words can’t explain how special these 4 people are!! Each of them went above and beyond to make sure that everything went smoothly, despite some of the challenges Africa threw at us 😅 Their care for their guests is unbelievable; from handling wifi and complicated logistics to spending hours researching how you can do a hobby you’ve mentioned that you like just to make your experience that much better 🫶

But more than anything, their love of Africa and their knowledge of the places we stayed meant that we really felt involved in the local community, something that can be difficult to achieve when travelling.
Overall, they have create something very beautiful here, bringing strangers together that leave feeling like family 🫶 I couldn’t recommend them more highly!
We are already keeping an eye out for future locations, we would truly follow them anywhere!!

I've just ended the most incredible 3 month stay with Africa Nomads - from Lamu to Addis Ababa and then to Zanzibar - and I don't know how to appropriately convey the level of appreciation and adoration I have for these incredible humans <3 <3 These folks really KNOW Africa; and it makes a HUGE difference when navigating work and logistics far far from home. Not only do they cater to your every desire, but they're the type of people who sneak gifts into your bag before you leave...

Do yourself a favor and get to know these places with these people. You won't regret it for a second! I will go anywhere Africa Nomads goes. Until we meet again, probably in no more than a few months!

I've just finished a 3 month trip with Africa nomad, joining them for chapters in Lamu, Addis Ababa and Zanzibar. It's honestly been one of the greatest experiences I've had.

The hosts are amazing at guiding you through the sometimes chaotic nature of these wonderful locations, go above and beyond to provide internet and always keep you busy with a tailored schedule of activities.

Highly recommend joining them for a chapter or three!

I'd wanted to visit sub-Saharan Africa but hesitated because I was concerned about issues such as reliable electricity and wifi. I hadn't stayed in a coliving/coworking situation before but when I encountered AfricaNomads it seemed like a good way to experience Africa.

I stayed in Nairobi for six weeks. As a woman in her mid-60s I was a little concerned but everyone was super accepting and invited me everywhere even though most of them were young enough to be my children or grandchildren. :) I really felt like I made lifelong friends during my stay.

Electricity and wifi were generally available, and the stay includes a local sim card and all the data you need. There are plenty of activities you can join in with, or not, including all the standard tourist things as well as hole-in-the-wall experiences you only get from people living there.

Members in my group were definitely there to work, and were generally quiet and tidy. I had such a good experience in Nairobi that I'm planning to join the group again later this year for Lamu and Ethiopia.

Alejandra and Felipe come from the hospitality industry and it really shows. They bend over backwards to provide whatever information or help that you need and were endlessly patient with all our first world demands. :)

The best 2 months of my life! I highly recommend Africa Nomads for remote working around Africa. I did the Zanzibar then Malawi trips and they were the most unforgettable experiences and the fastest wifi I've ever used was in Malawi. Thank you to Felipe, Alejandra and Steve for everything you did to make us all feel so at home!

If you’re curious about exploring Africa, Africa Nomads is the perfect place to start. They make the experience seamless, so you can focus on your work instead of figuring out logistics.
I spent five weeks with them, split between Nairobi and Lamu, and enjoyed every moment. I’ll definitely be back for more adventures.

Great experience. The Africa Nomads team were warm, hospital, informative, & very accommodating. Local staff working at the accommodation were also just as warm & helpful. I joined the Zanzibar trip. Zanzibar was peaceful, relaxed, & beautiful. Fellow nomads were friendly & a great time. I’d join Africa Nomads again & recommend them to anyone looking to travel to beautiful African countries with an informed, equipped, & friendly team in a co-living & digital nomad experience or group while they work remotely.

AfricaNomads is far more than a coliving experience, it's a cultural journey, a community and a chosen family for modern nomads. Every experience is curated to give a deeper sense of connection to the people and the continent itself. My only wish is that they continue to expand into even more African locations.

For me, that was the most meaningful part: being surrounded by such genuine people during such an extraordinary chapter of life.
I joined my partner at the last minute, and they immediately made me feel welcome and comfortable on a completely new continent.
Felipe shared his passion and insights about hiking and exploring the mountains, both locally and internationally. Alejandra and I connected through our shared love for photography, especially bird photography.
This coliving experience had real depth, and it turned out to be incredible. I enjoyed every activity and adventure we shared together: safaris, hiking, padel, local restaurants, language classes, museums, live music, movie nights, and so much more. There was always something new to discover. Everything was organized thoughtfully, safely, and in a way that made it easy to balance work and travel. The accommodation was great, the people in the houses were easy going and you had access to everything you would expect from a quality coliving experience.

I was plant-based and there was always options cooked with love during our trips outside the city. Nairobi is a vibrant city and you will be able to find great food options too.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is join and create your own chapter with them.

I joined the Watamu coliving in September 2025 for 2 weeks. Didn't really know what to expect and it was one of the best experiences I've had. The setup was fantastic, the apartments were really nice and the co-working space was kitted out and great to work from. The group was really cool and everyone was on a similar vibe - working during the day and adventuring in the evenings and weekends.
Pepe was the host for the month and she was AMAZING - whether it was sorting out our adventures, supporting on any issues or just giving us general advice on cool things to do in Kenya. She went above and beyond in making the experience the best, including showing us cool spots for local food, and great places to pick up local art/ clothing.
I loved it and plan to do another coliving experience with AfricaNomads next year!

The trip was beyond amazing! I went for 3 weeks with Africa Nomads, Nairobi edition plus Amboseli. Felipe, the host, is the kindest soul I’ve ever met. He made me feel secure and welcome every moment of my stay. Everything was well organized, well communicated. The location in Lavington was perfect – felt safe, close to many nice spots for dinner, lunch, convenience stores. We were with a small group of about 5/6 people and for some outings we were with a bigger group. Everyone was so nice – we had so much fun. There was also a good balance of activities and freetime/worktime. It was nice that they had collected our input for the planned activities in advance. Additionally there was room for spontaneous ideas. The only point for improvement was the accommodation in Nairobi – which was beyond AfricaNomads doing and they were doing everything they could for the best solution.

Overall I can’t imagine a better host organization. Thank you for having me and can’t wait for the next time💛

When the moment to say “goodbye” came, I felt sad to leave the new friends I’ve met, but I was equally feeling full of all the incredible places, emotions and friendships which I know will last for a lifetime. I spent almost a month with AfricaNomads during a Lamu co-living! Alejandra and Steve are legends and made my experience so amazing - they are so well connected on the island and have so many amazing activities in store for the co-living. Even though we were in Kenya for only a few days and not enough to join the co-living/co-working, Felipe and Alejandra have been super attentive and made sure we were included in the social events and weekend get-a-ways. It was great to meet the crew and chat to people with such interesting lives!

I must however highlight Felipe's attitude and sincere eagerness to assist in 2 different occasions. On one side, giving us a hand to book a safari and on other, helping me find someone to bring a very valuable item that I had left behind in Nairobi to Cape Town. He really went above and beyond and I couldn't be more thankful for his aid.

A fun fact is that we've never met in person and only interacted through whatsapp. This goes to show his kindness and genuine willingness to help others.

If they were able to be so attentive to someone outside their tribe, I can't imagine how they must treat their guests.

I would definitely consider traveling with AfricaNomads in a near future!

AfricaNomads is by far my favourite coliving in Kenya. Since my first call, Alejandra and Steve made me feel so comfortable. I met the team in person during my time in Watamu and I immediately felt the love! Everyone was personally invested in making sure my travels through Kenya were as smooth as possible - even before I joined their program! (Seriously, they literally rescued me when my tuktuk ran out of gas on a very sandy road).

My month in Lamu was no different. AfricaNomads truly cares about the people who join, and they make sure everything is as smooth as possible to give you the best experience. Lamu island is fascinating, people are so welcoming, you will feel part of the community within a week, and the weekend activities are a mix of cultural experiences and nature wonders. Joining the coliving of AfricaNomads has honestly been one of the best experience ever! I also was picked up from the airport in Malindi. The villa they booked was absolutely amazing and had everything we needed.

On arrival at the airport terminal we were greeted with smiles and hugs as warm as the Lamu sun from Steve and Alejandra. This wasn't a greeting from business owners but from friends.
If you value extraordinary levels of care, personal service (Steve even found me a chisel when I wanted to try carving a piece of driftwood!), and love on which is built an experience of Lamu which allows you to see fishermen, donkey owners and the famous Bongo (You'll find out!); to taste fantastic Swahili cuisine and to meet other engaged, passionate and committed nomads, book now for Lamu.

The only thing that could make Lamu a more magical, unique and transformative place, are the magical, unique and transformative people I met with African nomads and the experiences they organized for us. The history, the culture, the bonfires, the sailing, the food, the drinks, (if know where to go ;-) the swimming, the hiking- and all while managing to work remotely- created one the singularly most memorable travels in my long history of travels.
MASSIVE love and asante to The AfricaNomad family- Pepe and Steve who first welcomed me and helped me find accommodation, and Alejandra and Felipe who helped facilitate and lead the best guided experiences during my time on Lamu. Thank you for everything, I miss you all already and I know our paths will cross again.

I was searching for a nomad community in Africa for some time and I was lucky enough to find AfricaNomads team in Kenya. I left with no expectations and I had such an amazing experience. From the like minded people I met there, to all the activities carefully planned on a daily basis, I enjoyed each and every moment. It truly felt like home, carefree, while spending time in lovely company. Not to mention the delicious food, the warm culture and the African vibes. I didn't plan working while being there, as I was in transition between my jobs, but the rest of the group was working remote. You have all conditions and good wifi , so I definitely recommend it if you are a digital nomad or perhaps you just want to meet more people like yourself in a different environment:) Have fun, it is worth it!

In addition to discovering a country, a region, an island... I made some golden friends!

They leave nothing to chance. We feel surrounded, technically supported (power cuts can sometimes occur), and above all, we don't have to think about anything! What a time saver! We can really focus on the essentials!

Beautiful landscapes, countless sunsets, local businesses and associations making a positive social impact, a multitude of smiles that speak about the quality time we spend.

Wow, I can't express enough how amazing my time at Africa Nomads COliving was! What was supposed to be a two-weeks stay turned into an incredible six-weeks adventure, all thanks to the fantastic vibe and the awesome team and community.
